We use the conditional perfect to hypothesise about potential actions and scenarios, sometimes as a reflection upon hindsight.
When we form the conditional perfect, we are going to need an auxiliary verb, which is going to be ‘haber’. For the conditional perfect tense, we will conjugate haber in the conditional tense.
The participle will be the past participle formed for regular verbs by removing the AR/ER/IR from the infinitive and adding -ado for AR verbs and -ido for ER/IR verbs.
Remember that many verbs have irregular past participles.
The compound structure will be HABER + PAST PARTICIPLE:
| HABER | |
| Yo | habría |
| Tú | habrías |
| Él/ella/Usted | habría |
| Nosotr@s | habríamos |
| Vosotr@s | habríais |
| Ell@s/Ustedes | habrían |
Examples of the structure:
Habría pensado que fuera una buena idea – I would have thought that it would be a good idea.
Lo habría hecho de manera diferente – I would have done it differently.
